The Vattaja Natura area is the largest contiguous dry quicksand area in the Gulf of Bothnia region and Finland's most important site with Natura 2000 dune habitat types. For decades, the area has been used as a shooting range and exercise area by the Finnish Defence Forces. There is also significant recreational use of the area.
In the context of the Vattaja Dune Life project, recreational use and the Defence Forces' training functions in the area are being better adapted to the goals of dune preservation, damage caused to habitat types repaired, valuable habitat types restored and information on sandy habitats and the European Union's nature preservation goals distributed to the area's users.
This video film contains educational and informational material for the area's users. The film showcases the area's natural values and valuable set of species and habitat types, and gives guidance to users.
