The Armour band is one of Finland’s 12 military bands. The area of operation of the Armour Band consists of the Häme and Uusimaa Military Provinces. The goal of the band’s activities is to strengthen citizens’ defence motivation and to foster positive attitudes toward national defence. In addition to events organised by the Defence Forces, the band performs at events arranged by various national defence and veterans’ associations, and it holds its own concerts.
The band consists of one conductor and 20 musicians. It has around 200-250 performances a year.
The personnel of the Armour Band have formed several additional, smaller ensembles that enliven the band’s activities with their own repertoires.
The band’s services can also be hired by a range of associations, companies, and even individuals.
The Armour Band has considerable significance for music in the area. Over the decades, its personnel have participated actively in the area’s musical life. In 1999, the Armour Band won the culture prize of the newspaper Hämeen Sanomat for its significant cultural activities in the Häme region.
