The Häme Armour Battalion was formed in 2003 when the Jaeger Battalion (Jääkäripataljoona) and the Tank Battalion (Panssarivaunupataljoona) were merged. It specialises in training of wartime armoured troops. For the national defence, the battalion’s three basic units train soldiers for the most essential and effective troops of the Ground Forces.
The Jaeger Artillery Regiment trains soldiers for the wartime Armour Brigade’s entire indirect fire system and for the High Command Armoured Artillery and Mortar troops. Training is offered in the Gun Emplacement, Fire Control, Signals, Target Acquisition, and Mortar branches.
The task of the Helsinki Air Defence Regiment is to train troops for the air defence of the capital area. The units in training are the command levels of the Air Defence, Self-Propelled Air Defence Gun Platoons, Light Air Defence Batteries, and Target and Short Range Air Defence Batteries.
The Parola Battalion trains maintenance and transportation personnel for wartime Armoured and Mechanized Troops, as well as personnel for wartime Military Police units.
The main task of the Armour School is to train permanent staff for the Armoured and Mechanized Troops, and wartime Reserve Officers.
The Armour band is one of Finland’s 12 military bands. The area of operation of the Armour Band consists of the Häme and Uusimaa Military Provinces. Read more about the band here.
The Häme Regional Office is a regional administration that reports to the West Finland Military Province and has general judicial power covering conscription issues in the region. The Häme Regional Office belongs to the Armour Brigade’s Headquarters, functionally forming part of the operations department of that headquarters. Its functionality is based on performance of the tasks assigned to the regional office in the conscription sector of the operations department, and also in the operations planning sector.
The central tasks of the regional office are seeing to statutory conscription issues and planning, preparing, and leading military national defence. The office also plans, implements, and supports voluntary defence operations and training, and it maintains communication with the region’s authorities, national defence organisations, and the reserves.
Handling of statutory conscription issues consists of seeing to the personal affairs of conscripts outside their actual service in the military unit. The field of activity includes, for example, organising call-ups, evaluating capability for service, giving conscription orders, and providing customer service related to conscription issues.
The planning, preparation, and leading of military national defence consist of deploying the personnel and vehicles of the troops that the regional office is responsible for forming, as well as planning, implementing, establishing, and leading the training of the troops under its command.
In planning, implementation, and support of voluntary defence operations and training, the regional office is responsible for planning and implementing the Defence Forces’ voluntary exercises in co-operation with the National Defence Training Association, the Armour Brigade, and the Signal Regiment, and also for supervising and supporting voluntary national defence operations and training in its area of operation.
Communications with the region’s authorities, national defence organisations, and the reserves comprise maintaining communication with the National Defence Training Association, national defence organisations, and the reserves for the area; organising and developing activities that sustain community relations and defence motivation; and communicating and co-operating with other authorities on matters pertaining to its duties.
The customer service point of the regional office is located at the Suomen Kasarmi Garrison in Hämeenlinna and is open on working days from 8:00am to 4:15pm.
